Diagnostics

The compiler reports every problem it finds (up to 50), each with a stable code, the exact source range and, when the fix is mechanical, a replacement the editor offers as a quick fix. Errors stop the script from running; warnings do not.

Errors

Code	Meaning	Typical fix
`E_SYNTAX`	the text does not parse	check braces, commas, `=` in header settings
`E_UNKNOWN_NAME`	no variable, function or builtin of that name	spelling; the message suggests the closest name
`E_UNKNOWN_DIRECTIVE`	unknown header kind	`analysis`, `strategy`, `bot` or `library`
`E_RETIRED_SYNTAX`	an old form, e.g. a `//@strategy` comment header	apply the fix: it rewrites it as a header block
`E_DIRECTIVE_ARG`	a header setting is unknown, duplicated or out of range, or the header is not first	the message lists the valid values
`E_ARITY`	missing or extra arguments
`E_ARG_NAME`	unknown or repeated named argument
`E_ARG_ORDER`	positional argument after a named one
`E_KIND`	a value of the wrong kind (text where a number is needed, a void call used as a value, ...)
`E_NOT_CONST`	an argument must be a constant (titles, shapes, profile rows ...)	use a literal or a parameter where allowed
`E_TUPLE_IN_VALUE`	a call returning several values used as one value	`(a, b) = f(...)`
`E_RECURSION`	a function calls itself, directly or through others	rewrite as a loop
`E_STATE_IN_LOOP`	a stateful call inside a runtime loop	a constant list / range (unrolled), or move the call out
`E_LOOP_CONTROL`	`break` / `continue` outside a loop
`E_PARAM_DUP`	two parameters with the same id	set `id = ...`
`E_ORDER_IN_ANALYSIS`	an order or exit in an `analysis` script	use a `strategy` or `bot` header
`E_RESERVED_NAME` / `E_RESERVED_DOMAIN`	a keyword or builtin domain used as a name	rename
`E_DUPLICATE_SYMBOL`	the same name declared twice
`E_LIBRARY_NOT_FOUND` / `E_LIBRARY_NAME_MISMATCH` / `E_LIBRARY_CYCLE`	library problems	see Libraries
`E_STACK_DEPTH`	an expression too deep for the VM	split it into variables

Warnings

Code	Meaning
`W_STATE_IN_BRANCH`	a stateful call inside `if` / `match` / `?:` only advances on some bars

Runtime warnings

Reported once per call site in meta.runtimeWarnings:

Code	Meaning
`W_HOST_DATA`	host data (order book, fundamentals, ...) is not supplied by this chart
`W_FEED_MISSING`	an external feed was not supplied
`W_INDEX_RANGE`	read outside a collection (the result is `na`)
`W_DRAW_ID`	a drawing id that does not exist (deleted or never created)
`W_TIMEZONE` / `W_SESSION` / `W_INTERVAL`	an invalid time zone, session or interval value (UTC / no session / na is used)

Runtime errors

LIMIT_EXCEEDED with the limit's name (loop, instructions, memory, collection) stops the run; see Execution model.
