Strategy Builder — Overview

Strategy Builder — Overview

Strategy Builder

A nine-step wizard for designing, testing and deploying automated trading strategies without writing code. Conditions are built from 100+ indicators, validated against historical data, and serialised to a portable JSON DSL.

What it is

The Strategy Builder a trading idea into an executable rule set. Instead of writing code, you assemble conditions — comparisons between indicator values, price fields and constants — and the platform evaluates them on every candle. It combines a form-based condition editor with a node-based canvas, so the same logic can be authored as a list of rules or as a wiring diagram.

Every is backed by a DSL that serialises to JSON. That is what makes strategies portable — exportable for backup, shareable with other traders, and publishable to the .

Architecture

Four layers, each with one job. The wizard collects configuration into a single store. The candles plus configuration into boolean signals. replays history through the evaluator and keeps the books. The execution layer does the same thing against a broker instead of a recording.

  • UI layer — the wizard steps, backed by a single store that owns all step state, chart state and backtest state.
  • Evaluation engine — resolves indicators, applies comparisons, and folds the through the AND/OR tree. Shared by backtest and execution, which is why a backtested rule behaves the same way in production.
  • — drives the bar by bar, manages the position lifecycle, and computes the metric set.
  • Execution layer — and live executors sharing one broker-adapter interface, with risk limits enforced above it.

The nine steps

The wizard is sequential — each step builds on the last — but navigation is free once a step is complete, so you can jump back to Symbol after seeing a backtest without losing anything.

  1. 1
    Step 0 — Particulars
Name, , tags and visibility. An 8-digit Strategy ID is derived from the name and used for order tracking.
  2. 2
    Step 1 — Settings
Global behaviour: single or and exits, the multi-entry type, and level spacing.
  3. 3
    Step 2 — Tagging
Optional. , signal tags and order linking — for reconciliation, not for .
  4. 4
    Step 3 — Symbol
Broker, segment, , timeframe and session mode. Decides what is available and when the is allowed to trade.
  5. 5
    Step 4 — Quantity & Capital
Position sizing , capital, leverage, position limits, and how capital is split across entry sets.
  6. 6
    Step 5 — Entry
The that triggers orders, the , and re-entry configuration for Grid, DCA and Pyramid.
  7. 7
    Step 6 — Exit & Risk
Exit conditions, , take profit, partial exits, and portfolio-level risk limits.
  8. 8
    Step 7 — Testing
Backtest, , or switch to real-time and live execution. Where the is judged.
  9. 9
    Step 8 — Review & Deploy
Every setting in one place, and import, and to paper or live.

Core concepts

Signal

A named set of conditions that triggers an entry or exit. Evaluated on every candle; fires when the whole resolves true.

Condition group

Conditions joined by AND or OR. AND needs all true, OR needs one. Groups nest, so "oversold AND (momentum OR trend)" is expressible.

Crossover

A comparison that fires once, on the bar where one crosses the other. The distinction between a and a filter is the single most common source of confusion.

Risk management

, take profit, partial exits, trailing stops, daily loss limits and position caps. Enforced by the engine, not by your conditions.

Backtest engine

Replays historical candles through your logic, tracks positions and P&L, and computes , , and 30 more.

DSL

The JSON of a . Enables export, import, sharing and version control of a configuration.

Quick start

Build your first strategy in five minutes

  • Open the Strategy Builder from the Automated Trading section
  • Step 0 — enter a name such as "Golden NIFTY"; the ID generates itself
  • — leave the unless you want
  • — skip
  • — pick broker, symbol (NIFTY), timeframe (5m) and
  • Step 4 — choose , set it to 1 lot
  • Step 5 — add an entry: SMA(50) crossesAbove SMA(200)
  • Step 6 — add an exit: SMA(50) crossesBelow SMA(200), and a 2%
  • Step 7 — set a and capital, then run the backtest
  • Step 8 — review the and deploy to paper trading
★
Pro tip:Load a preset from the Entry step before writing anything by — Golden , Buy, Oversold . Starting from a working rule set and adjusting it is faster than starting from an empty one, and it shows you the a good condition takes.
