Candle Tooltip

Data readout

Hover-activated data readout showing OHLC(IV) values for any bar, with cross-pane sync and multi-timeframe alignment.

Overview

The candle tooltip is the chart's data inspector. Hover over any bar to reveal its Open, High, Low, and Close prices along with Volume and change. The tooltip automatically aligns when multiple timeframes or panes share the same hover position, giving you a unified data readout across the entire layout.

Unlike static indicators, the tooltip is transient — it appears on hover and disappears when you move away, keeping the chart clean while giving you on-demand access to bar-level . It respects the chart's visible range and handles watchlists by showing the data for the hovered .

UI & layout

The tooltip renders as a floating positioned near the hovered bar. It automatically avoids the chart edges — if the bar is near the top of the chart, the tooltip appears below it; if near the edge, it shifts left. This adaptive positioning ensures the readout is always fully visible without manual adjustment.

The uses a semi-transparent dark fill with a subtle border, making it legible against both light and dark chart backgrounds. is rendered in the chart's configured font family and size, and decimal follows the 's quote convention.

Cross-pane synchronization

When linked is active, the tooltip extends its readout across all panes in the layout. Hovering over a bar in the main price pane shows not only the price data but also the corresponding values for every indicator pane below it — , MACD, volume, or custom studies — all at the same in time.

This synchronization works across multiple and windows in a multi-chart layout. Each pane displays its own tooltip with the relevant data, all driven by the same position.

Multi-timeframe alignment

When viewing the same at different resolutions across panes (e.g., 15min and 1h), the tooltip aligns bars by their closing time. The higher-resolution pane shows the current bar's while the lower-resolution pane shows the encompassing bar, giving you a coherent view of the same moment across timeframes.

Alignment uses the bar's closing timestamp as the synchronization key. If the higher- timeframe bar spans multiple lower-timeframe bars, the tooltip shows data for the lower-timeframe bar that ends at the same time as the higher-timeframe bar.

★
Pro tip:Locking the tooltip with Shift is useful when taking screenshots or recording video — it ensures the data readout stays visible without requiring continuous mouse pressure.

Best practices

★
Pro tip:Hold Shift while hovering to lock the tooltip in place. This makes it easy to read precise values or them against a reference level without the drifting.
ℹ
Note:The tooltip respects the chart's scale. On log-scaled charts, the price delta reflects the spacing rather than linear distance.
ℹ
Note:Reduce decimal in settings for instruments with many decimal places (e.g., FX pairs) to keep the tooltip compact and readable.
★
Pro tip:Combined with the , the tooltip provides clean on-demand data inspection without persistent screen clutter — ideal for setups.

Common issues

!
Caution:The tooltip may not appear in indicator panes if pane sync is disabled. Enable linking in the layout settings to restore -pane tooltip behavior.
!
Caution:On very high DPI displays or 4K monitors, the tooltip may appear too . Increase the base chart font size to improve readability on dense displays.
ℹ
Note:The tooltip only shows data for bars within the currently loaded visible range. Historical bars that have not been loaded by the chart will not a tooltip.
ℹ
Note:When using custom timeframes or synthetic instruments, the tooltip displays data as provided by the data feed. Some custom aggregations may show limited fields.

Edge cases

When hovering at the boundary between two bars, the tooltip snaps to the nearest bar based on the 's position relative to each bar's midpoint. The snap threshold can be configured in the settings.

In very dense chart areas with many overlapping bars (e.g., charts), the tooltip shows data for the topmost bar in the z-order. Zooming in can help disambiguate overlapping bars.

Accessibility

The tooltip content is exposed to screen readers via ARIA regions. When the tooltip is visible, its content is announced to assistive technology. Locked tooltips persist in the accessibility tree until dismissed by the user.

Keyboard-only users can enable a focus-based tooltip where tabbing through bars triggers the tooltip without requiring a mouse hover. This mode is available in the accessibility settings .
