The crosshair projects a for time and a for price across the full chart area, with a floating at the intersection. It synchronizes across multiple panes and windows for comparative analysis, making it the primary tool for correlating price action across indicators, timeframes, and instruments.

Axis tracking

Moving the activates the crosshair. The axis follows the cursor's X position and snaps to the nearest bar boundary. The horizontal axis tracks price on the Y axis, projecting a line across the entire pane . Both axes extend to the chart edges, where scale markers show the exact price and time values.

Magnet mode

The magnet snaps the crosshair to specific price levels on each bar — open, high, low, or close. When enabled, the jumps to the nearest configured reference instead of following the smoothly. This is essential for identifying exact entry and exit prices and for precise measurement comparisons.

  • Magnet to OHLC — snaps to open, high, low, or close of the nearest bar.
  • Magnet to level — snaps to the nearest or Fib level.
  • Magnet to — snaps to the nearest anchor point on any .

Multi-pane synchronization

When linked pane is active, all panes show the same crosshair time with their respective price readouts. Moving the crosshair in the main price pane automatically updates the crosshair position in every linked indicator pane below it. This synchronization extends across multiple chart in a multi- layout.

Each pane displays its own price based on its own scale. This means an indicator pane with will show the RSI at the crosshair position, while the price pane shows the bar's OHLC data — all at the same in time.

How to use

  1. 1
    Activate crosshair
Select the crosshair tool from the toolbar, or press the assigned keyboard shortcut.
  2. 2
    Read price
The follows the — read the price from the scale marker.
  3. 3
    Read time
The snaps to bar boundaries; the timestamp appears at the bottom of the chart.
  4. 4
    Sync panes
Enable pane linking in the layout settings so all indicators and sub-charts show crosshair values at the same time.
  5. 5
    Use magnet
Toggle magnet to snap the crosshair to open, high, low, or close levels on each bar.
  6. 6
    Lock position
Hold Shift to freeze the crosshair at the current position for careful inspection.

Best practices

★
Pro tip:Toggle the magnet to snap the crosshair precisely to open, high, low, or close levels on each bar — useful for identifying exact entry and exit prices.
ℹ
Note:The crosshair display adapts to the chart's . On FX pairs you will see five decimal places; on equities, two. This is automatic based on the configuration.
★
Pro tip:Use the locked crosshair (Shift) when taking screenshots or discussing a specific chart with colleagues — the frozen ensures everyone sees the same values.
ℹ
Note:On multi-monitor setups, enable pane sync across windows to maintain a single crosshair position across all charts. This is invaluable for multiple timeframes simultaneously.

Common issues

!
Caution:If the crosshair lines appear misaligned with bars, check that the bar snap threshold is set appropriately. A threshold that is too high may snap to the wrong bar in dense charts.
ℹ
Note:The crosshair may not appear in indicator panes unless pane sync is enabled. Verify that -pane linking is active in the layout settings.
ℹ
Note:On logarithmic scale charts, the crosshair price axis remains accurate but the spacing between price levels will not be uniform. The always shows the correct .

Integration with other tools

The crosshair works in concert with several other chart tools. When the is active, the crosshair readout and tooltip share the same data source and position. The tool uses the crosshair position as its starting when invoked. tools that require precise placement (like lines and Fib retracements) benefit from the crosshair magnet for snap-to-level accuracy.

Crosshair on multi-chart layouts

When using a multi-chart layout (multiple instruments or timeframes in separate windows), the crosshair can synchronize across all windows. This requires the -window sync setting to be enabled. When active, moving the crosshair in any window updates the crosshair position in all open windows to the same time coordinate. This is invaluable for comparing the same moment across different instruments or resolutions.

Crosshair data export

With a locked crosshair, you can copy the crosshair (price, time, OHLC values) to the clipboard. -click the locked crosshair readout and select "Copy Values" to copy the data as tab-separated , ready for pasting into a or -taking application. This is useful for building trade journals or recording analysis checkpoints.

Accessibility features

The crosshair supports keyboard navigation for users who cannot use a mouse. Tab into the chart area and use arrow keys to move the crosshair one bar at a time. Shift + arrow moves one screen . The crosshair is announced by screen readers when it changes position. These accessibility features make the crosshair fully usable without a pointing device.
