The eraser tool deletes chart drawings and . Click an individual to remove it, or use the controls to clear all drawings, indicators only, or annotations only. It is the most direct way to remove unwanted elements from your chart workspace.

Click-to-delete behavior

With the eraser active, clicking any object — lines, shapes, labels, channels, or studies — immediately removes it. The eraser shows a preview highlight on , making it clear which object will be deleted before you click. This preview uses a color-coded outline or highlight effect that intensifies as you hover closer to the drawing.

There is no confirmation dialog for individual deletions; they are immediate. However, every deletion is recorded in the undo history. Use Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo a deletion if it was accidental. The undo stack supports multiple levels, so you can revert a series of deletions.

Preview highlight

When the eraser hovers over a deletable object, the object is highlighted with a subtle red or orange tint, and its anchor points may flash briefly. This tells you exactly what will be deleted before you click. If multiple drawings overlap, the topmost in the z-order is highlighted first. Scrolling the mouse wheel while hovering cycles through drawings.

ℹ
Note:The preview highlight feature is your best defense against accidental deletion. Always check that the correct is highlighted before clicking. If the wrong drawing highlights, move the slightly or to cycle through overlapping elements.
★
Pro tip:Lock drawings (via the object tree or -click menu) to protect them from accidental deletion. Locked drawings cannot be removed by the eraser unless you explicitly allow it in the eraser settings.

Common issues

!
Caution:If you delete a and then perform other actions (drawing, zooming, panning), you may not be able to undo the deletion. The undo stack is sequential — undo immediately after deletion for best .
ℹ
Note:The eraser can delete drawings placed by other users in a shared workspace. Be cautious when deleting in collaborative environments, as deletions in shared layouts affect all viewers.
ℹ
Note:Some tools create compound objects (e.g., a channel with fill + lines + ). Clicking any part of the compound object with the eraser deletes the entire compound, not just the clicked element.

Bulk deletion dialog

The "Clear All Drawings" option in the chart menu provides a dialog that lets you choose what to delete: all drawings, all indicators, or both. It also lets you by type — for example, delete all trendlines but keep lines and labels. This gives you fine-grained control over bulk cleanup operations without affecting the entire chart.

Recovery options

Beyond the undo stack, deleted drawings can sometimes be recovered from the chart's version history if the layout supports auto-save and revision tracking. Check the layout revision history to restore a previous version of the chart if you need to recover drawings after a significant cleanup.

Collaborative considerations

In shared chart layouts (multi-user environments), the eraser can delete drawings placed by any user. There is no per-user ownership of drawings by default. If you are working in a team, be mindful that your deletions affect all viewers. Some team setups support locking, which prevents other users from deleting locked drawings without the lock holder's permission.

Eraser vs keyboard delete

There are two deletion workflows with different strengths. The eraser tool is best for ad-hoc deletion of individual drawings — , the highlight, click — especially when the is not currently selected. The keyboard delete (Delete/Backspace) is faster when a drawing is already selected, as it requires no mouse targeting. The bulk clear via the chart menu is best for complete cleanup, with the optional confirmation dialog providing a safety net.

Drawing type filter

The bulk deletion dialog includes a that lets you select specific to delete while preserving others. For example, you can delete all trendlines and channels while keeping lines, Fib levels, and labels intact. This filtered deletion is significantly more precise than clearing all drawings and re-adding the elements you want to keep.

Performance with many drawings

On charts with hundreds or thousands of drawings, the eraser preview highlight system uses a spatial index to quickly determine which is under the . This ensures that the highlight responds instantly regardless of the total drawing count. When deleting numbers of drawings via bulk operations, the deletion is batched for optimal performance rather than processed one at a time.
