Schiff Pitchfork

Schiff Pitchfork

Shifted origin

A refinement of Andrews' Pitchfork that relocates the median origin vertically, producing a channel whose slope better reflects the true trend when P0 is an outlier spike.

The problem it solves

When the first pivot (P0) is a climactic , the standard median inherits that extreme and slopes too aggressively. Jerome Schiff's fix relocates the median origin halfway up the distance between P0 and P1, keeping P0's time coordinate. The channel re-slopes to a more representative angle while the tines stay on P1 and P2.

Anatomy

P0P1P2
Origin (red dot) shifted vertically from P0 toward P1; the median re-slopes, tines unchanged.

Schiff vs the family

P0P1P2AndrewsSchiffMod. Schiff
Identical pivots — Andrews (steepest), Schiff (vertical shift), Modified Schiff (flattest).

Schiff sits between the slope and the conservative . Reach for it when the standard fork looks too steep purely because P0 was a spike.

Construction (3 clicks)

Click P0 → P1 → P2; the origin then shifts vertically toward P1 automatically.

How price behaves

resistancerejectionmedian pullsupport
Reversion to the re-sloped median, with rejections at the outer tines.
  • The re-sloped median is the equilibrium to trade against.
  • Outer tines remain support/resistance rails.
  • direction by overlaying a standard pitchfork on the same pivots.

A textbook trade setup

Enter at a tine, target the median, stop just beyond the tine.
★
Pro tip:Use Schiff when the standard median looks too because P0 was a climactic — the flatter median gives more realistic targets.
