Inside Pitchfork

Inside Pitchfork

Tight channel

A pitchfork whose origin sits between P0 and P1, producing a tighter median that hugs recent price — ideal for reading internal structure within a developing move.

The idea

The Inside Pitchfork places the origin at the midpoint of P0 and P1 (both axes). The resulting threads closer to recent price, so the channel responds to the internal rhythm of a move rather than its outer envelope. Think of it as a fast, near-term channel nested inside the wider structure that a standard pitchfork would describe.

Origin formula

Shifted origin
( (P0.x+P1.x)/2, (P0.y+P1.y)/2 ) — midpoint of P0 and P1
Character
Tighter channel that tracks internal structure
vs. Andrews
uses P0 as origin; Inside uses halfway toward P1

ℹ
Note:Pair with a standard pitchfork: the Inside fork frames the near-term inside the wider channel, giving you two timeframes of structure at once.

Levels & fills

Because the channel is narrow, inner levels subdivide the structure finely.

The tight channel means each inner-level line is close to its neighbours — reactions to those levels are frequent and useful for intraday or fine-tuning entry timing.

How price behaves

resistancerejectionmedian pullsupport
The tight median fires earlier signals than the wider outer study.
  • Use the tight to time entries within an established trend.
  • Inner-channel touches fire earlier than the outer study — useful for entries.
  • Loss of the inside channel often precedes a test of the wider structure.
  • If price breaks the inside channel cleanly, consider re-anchoring on the new swing.

A textbook trade setup

Entry (lower tine)Target (median)Stop below tine
Enter at the inner tine, target the inner median, stop just beyond the tine.
  1. Identify the broader trend using a standard pitchfork.
  2. Overlay the Inside fork on the most recent sub-swing in the trend direction.
  3. Enter at an inner- with the trend.
  4. First target: inner . Second target: outer fork median.

Common pitfalls

!
Caution:The tight channel is quickly — a single impulsive candle can blast through it. Always it on structure; minor wiggles produce useless forks.
