Modified Schiff Pitchfork

Modified Schiff Pitchfork

Shifted origin ×2

The most conservative member of the fork family — the median origin shifts toward the base midpoint in both time and price, producing the flattest, most noise-tolerant channel.

The idea

The Modified Schiff relocates the origin to the midpoint between P0 and the centre of P1–P2, adjusting both the (time) and vertical (price) position. Where the only moves the origin vertically, the Modified variant also pulls it forward in time, giving the gentlest median slope — ideal for ranging, choppy, or mean-reverting conditions.

Origin formula

Base midpoint M
M = ( (P1.x+P2.x)/2, (P1.y+P2.y)/2 )
Shifted origin
( (P0.x+M.x)/2, (P0.y+M.y)/2 ) — both axes
vs. Andrews
origin = P0 (no shift)
vs. Schiff
shifts vertically only; Modified shifts both axes

Where it sits in the family

P0P1P2AndrewsSchiffMod. Schiff
Same pivots — Modified Schiff (teal) yields the flattest median.
  • (red) — steepest; to the original P0.
  • (yellow) — shift only; intermediate slope.
  • Modified Schiff (teal) — both- shift; flattest, most conservative.

Construction (3 clicks)

1P02P13P2
Click P0 → P1 → P2; the origin is then pulled toward the base midpoint automatically.
  1. 1
    Set P0
Origin pivot (often a significant swing high or low).
  2. 2
    Set P1
First swing — the origin will shift toward the midpoint of P1/P2.
  3. 3
    Set P2
Second swing; the fork projects forward.

Pro tip:Prefer this variant on choppy, ranging markets where a gentler tracks the mean better than the steeper or Schiff.

Levels & fills

Median at 0%, tines at 100%, inner levels grading the channel.

Inner levels are especially valuable here — because the slope is gentler, price lingers longer within the channel and inner-level reactions are frequent high-quality signals.

How price behaves

resistancerejectionmedian pullsupport
Price oscillates between the tines; the gentler median makes mean-reversion trades easier to hold.
  • The flatter emphasises mean-reversion over trend thrust.
  • Fade moves at the outer tines back toward the .
  • A break-and-hold beyond a warns the range is resolving into a trend — switch to Andrews.

A textbook trade setup

Entry (lower tine)Target (median)Stop below tine
Enter at a tine, target the median, stop just beyond the tine.
  1. Wait for price to reach an outer with a rejection candle.
  2. Enter toward the — the flattest slope means the median is closer than it looks.
  3. Place the stop just beyond the .
  4. If the holds, toward the opposite .

Common pitfalls

!
Caution:On a strong trending market, the Modified Schiff's gentle slope can make the channel look flat while price trends cleanly through it. If price doesn't oscillate around the , switch to or Schiff.
