When Price Input is enabled, two UI components are to the bar (positioned between the quantity controls and the settings gear):

  • M/L Toggle — a segmented button with two states: M (Market) and L (Limit). The active state is highlighted in the accent colour. Clicking the inactive segment switches the . The toggle is always visible when Price Input is enabled, even when a mode is inactive. This provides a persistent reminder of the current .
  • Price Input Field — an editable input that accepts decimal price values. It appears only when L (Limit) is active. The field supports standard number entry: digits, a single decimal , and backspace. Non-numeric characters are . Interaction with Default Order Mode

The Price Input setting and setting to determine the initial state of the bar when it loads:

  • Default = Market, Price Input = On — the bar loads with the M/L toggle set to M (Market). The is hidden. You can click L to switch to Limit , which reveals the price field. After placing a , the toggle resets to M (the default).
  • Default = Market, Price Input = Off — no toggle or is shown. All clicks place market orders. This is the most streamlined configuration for traders who exclusively use market orders.
  • Default = Limit, Price Input = On — the bar loads with the toggle set to L (Limit). The is visible and focused. You can enter a limit price and click B/S. Switching to M hides the price field temporarily.
  • Default = Limit, Price Input = Off — the bar shows no . When you click B/S, a dialog prompts you to enter a limit price. This adds an extra step and is not recommended for frequent trading.

Interaction with Bid/Ask Prices

When both Price Input and Bid/Ask Quotes are enabled, the Bid and Ask chips become quick-fill buttons for the price input field:

  • Bid chip click — clicking the Bid chip (£42,000) the with the current best bid price. This is useful when placing a buy limit at the bid level (passive buy) or a sell limit at the bid level ( sell, though this would be a marketable limit).
  • Ask chip click — clicking the Ask chip (£42,010) the with the current best ask price. This is useful when placing a sell limit at the ask level (passive sell) or a buy limit at the ask level ( buy).
  • Manual override — after clicking a chip, you can still the manually. The chip click is a convenience shortcut, not a lock-in. This lets you use the chip for a starting price and then fine-tune.
  • Real-time updates — the Bid/Ask prices update in real time from the order book feed. If the price changes after you from a chip, the retains the you selected — it does not auto-update.

Layout Impact

Enabling Price Input changes the layout of the bar. The bar increases to accommodate the toggle and , which may affect how the bar fits on smaller chart areas:

  • Bar — the M/L toggle adds approximately 36px of width. The adds approximately 72px when visible. Total additional width is roughly 108px when in Limit .
  • Responsive behaviour — on narrow chart areas (e.g., multi-chart layouts), the bar may not have enough space to show all controls. In this case, the bar may truncate or wrap depending on the implementation. Consider using Small panel size to reduce overall .
  • interaction — larger sizes (Medium, Large) increase the height and spacing of all controls, including the toggle and . If you enable Price Input with Large size, ensure your chart area has adequate .
  • Bid/Ask addition — if Bid/Ask Quotes are also enabled, two additional chips (~80px each) are , further increasing the bar . With all features enabled (Price Input + Bid/Ask + default controls), the bar requires approximately 500px of space.

Use Cases

  • Dual- flexibility — a day trader uses market orders for entries but limit orders for take-profit targets. With Price Input enabled and Default set to Market, they keep market orders as the default but can switch to Limit on the fly for exit orders.
  • Bid/Ask snapping — a scalper watches the order book and wants to place orders at the current bid or ask instantly. With Price Input and Bid/Ask Quotes enabled, they click the Ask chip to fill the price, then click B to place a buy limit at the ask.
  • Reduced dialog fatigue — a trader who previously had to a price dialog for every finds the inline much faster. The price field is always ready for input without any modal popup interrupting the workflow.
ℹ
Note:The price input field only appears when L (Limit) is selected. In Market , the toggle button is still visible but the is hidden. This keeps the bar compact when you do not need price entry.
★
Pro tip:If you primarily use limit orders, set both to Limit and Price Input to On. This gives you the most streamlined experience — the is always ready, and you can switch to Market with a single click when needed.
