Flag marks are triangular markers that you place on the chart to highlight significant levels — support and resistance, breakout , earnings dates, news events, or any moment worth noting. Each flag has a colored fill and an optional label, making them ideal for categorizing and organizing chart at a glance.

Flag structure

Each flag consists of a triangular pennant on a pole. The pennant to the by default and sits atop the pole. The bottom of the pole is to the chart at the price and time coordinate where you clicked. When selected, the anchor point is shown as a dot at the pole base.

The flag supports an optional label displayed to the of the pennant. The label can contain up to 30 characters and is editable after placement. Label styling (font, size, color) can be configured independently of the flag color, allowing you to use text color for additional categorization.

Directional flags

Flags can be configured to up, down, left, or . Up-pointing and down-pointing flags are commonly used to indicate bullish and bearish bias at a level. Left-pointing flags mark past events, while right-pointing flags mark expectations. The direction is set during placement or adjusted later from the properties .

Best practices

★
Pro tip:Use different flag colors to categorize events: red for resistance, green for support, yellow for news events, blue for earnings. Consistent color conventions make your chart readable at a glance and speed up post- review.
ℹ
Note:Flags can be grouped with other . Use multi-select (Ctrl/Cmd + click) to move or delete multiple flags at once, useful for cleaning up marked levels after a trading session.
★
Pro tip:Use up-pointing flags for bullish (support bounces) and down-pointing flags for bearish zones (resistance rejections). Over time, your chart builds a diary of market structure that is scannable in seconds.
ℹ
Note:Labels are truncated at 30 characters. For longer notes, consider using the annotation tool or marker. Flags are optimized for short, scannable labels.

Common issues

!
Caution:If flags appear cut off at the chart edge, try repositioning them toward the center. Flags placed at extreme price levels may have their pole or pennant clipped by the chart boundary.
ℹ
Note:Flags on very low timeframes ( charts, 1-second) may appear to shift position as new bars are . The flag remains to its original coordinate — the visible position changes because the chart's time shifts.
ℹ
Note:The flag label font uses the chart's default font family. To use a different font, change the chart font setting, which will update all elements including flag labels.

Use cases

Flag marks are particularly effective for building pre-market analysis. Before the trading day, place flags at key levels you are watching: previous day high/low, pre-market range boundaries, news event times, and earnings announcements. During the , these flags serve as cues for your trading without cluttering the chart with multiple tools.

Integration

Flags appear in the object tree alongside all other . You can the object tree by type to see only flags, making bulk operations (select, lock, delete, export) efficient. Flags are also included in chart template exports, so your marked levels carry over when you apply the same template to other instruments.

Flag stacking & overlap

When multiple flags are placed at similar price levels, they may overlap. The chart handles this by offsetting subsequent flags slightly in the time dimension to create a staggered appearance. You can adjust the offset distance in the flag settings. If you prefer exact alignment (all flags at exactly the same time coordinate), disable the auto-offset feature and manually position each flag using .

Color conventions for teams

In team environments, establishing a shared color convention for flags improves communication. A common convention uses red for resistance levels, green for support levels, yellow for news events, blue for earnings dates, purple for economic releases, and orange for gap . The label can supplement the color with additional context. Team conventions can be saved as a color palette preset and shared across the team.

Export & import

Flag marks are included in chart template exports and layout saves. When you save a chart layout, all flags with their positions, colors, labels, and directions are preserved. Importing a layout on another places flags at the same relative positions — useful when you have a standardized analysis template with pre-marked levels that you apply across multiple instruments.

Flag animation

Flags can be configured with optional animation effects. With animation enabled, the flag pennant waves gently when the chart is idle, attention to the marked level. The animation is subtle and can be disabled in settings if you prefer static markers. The animation has no impact on chart performance and does not affect the flag's click target or selection behavior.
