Depth Radar

Order Book View

Polar depth: the angle is distance from mid and the radius is cumulative depth — the book drawn as a shape.

What it answers

What is the overall of the book, and is it lopsided? Open it from the order book toolbar with View → Depth Radar, or from Settings → . The , bar and order entry stay in place; only the book pane changes.

Anatomy

Right half
, from the (top) to the deepest level (bottom).
Left half
, .
Radius
√( depth ÷ deepest side). depth quartiles.
Dots
Individual levels. Larger dots are walls.
Centre
Total imbalance (bid − ask) ÷ (bid + ask), ringed in the heavier side's colour, with the mid price.

How to read it

  1. A , symmetric is a balanced book.
  2. A bulging to one side shows where the weight is.
  3. A sharp step outward along one spoke is a wall at that distance.
  4. A that flattens near the top of a half means the near book is thin on that side.

How it is computed

  • Each level's angle comes from |price − mid| ÷ the furthest level on either side, mapped onto a half-circle.
  • The radius uses the of depth, so the near book keeps its room.
  • The connects the centre to every level's (angle, radius) .
Core calculation
const reach = Math.max(mid - bids.at(-1)!.price, asks.at(-1)!.price - mid);
const angle = (l: OrderBookLevel, side: 'bid' | 'ask') => {
  const a = -Math.PI / 2 + (Math.abs(l.price - mid) / reach) * Math.PI;
  return side === 'ask' ? a : Math.PI - a;
};
const radius = (l: OrderBookLevel) => Math.sqrt(l.total / maxTotal) * R;
const imbalance = (bidDepth - askDepth) / (bidDepth + askDepth);

Trading signals

Lopsided shape

Strong asymmetry is a standing bias in resting liquidity. It is useful context for which side a breakout is more likely to fail on.

Spike

A sudden outward spike on one spoke is a order. Watch whether it persists (real) or vanishes (spoof).

!
Caution:The square-root radius compresses differences: a that looks twice as large holds roughly four times the depth.

Standalone HTML implementation

A complete, dependency-free page that implements this view on a canvas against the real-time book. It runs below exactly as written. The harness keeps a full local book from the REST snapshot and the 100ms diff stream (resyncing on any sequence gap) and reads from aggTrade. Change SYMBOL / GROUP for another market, or replace snapshot() with your own feed, and the draw() function works unchanged.
