Concentration

Order Book View

Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient of each side — how few levels hold the liquidity.

What it answers

Is the book spread out, or by a few levels? Open it from the order book toolbar with View → Concentration, or from Settings → . The , bar and order entry stay in place; only the book pane changes.

Anatomy

Diagonal
A perfectly even book: every level holds the same size.
Curves
share of depth (y) against share of levels, largest first (x), per side.
Gini
0 = evenly spread, 1 = a single level holds everything.
Top 3
Share of the side's depth by its three largest levels.
Bars
The largest levels and their share; for details.

How to read it

  1. A that bows sharply upward means a few levels dominate.
  2. the two Gini values: the more concentrated side depends on a few orders, which can be .
  3. A rising Gini over time means liquidity is consolidating into walls.

How it is computed

  • Sizes are sorted ; the Lorenz are (i ÷ n, ÷ total).
  • Gini = 2 × (area under the ) − 1, using trapezoids.
Core calculation
const sizes = levels.map(l => l.quantity).sort((a, b) => b - a);
const total = sizes.reduce((s, v) => s + v, 0);
let cum = 0, area = 0, prev: [number, number] = [0, 0];
sizes.forEach((v, i) => {
  cum += v; const p: [number, number] = [(i + 1) / sizes.length, cum / total];
  area += (p[0] - prev[0]) * (p[1] + prev[1]) / 2; prev = p;
});
const gini = 2 * area - 1;

Trading signals

Fragile side

A high-Gini side relies on a few orders. If they are , that side's depth collapses at once.

Healthy book

Low Gini on both is broad, many-participant liquidity, typical of liquid, mean-reverting markets.

!
Caution:Concentration is measured over the visible levels only. Changing the level count changes the Gini.

Settings that affect this view

Levels
The level population the Gini is computed over.
Line width / glow

Standalone HTML implementation

A complete, dependency-free page that implements this view on a canvas against the real-time book. It runs below exactly as written. The harness keeps a full local book from the REST snapshot and the 100ms diff stream (resyncing on any sequence gap) and reads from aggTrade. Change SYMBOL / GROUP for another market, or replace snapshot() with your own feed, and the draw() function works unchanged.
