Order Flow

Order Book View

Size added and pulled at every level, live, over a slowly decaying history.

What it answers

Who is adding liquidity and who is pulling it, and where? Open it from the order book toolbar with View → Order Flow, or from Settings → . The , bar and order entry stay in place; only the book pane changes.

Real time: the production Order Flow renderer on the live Binance spot book (REST snapshot + 100ms diff stream + trades). Switch symbol or source above; hover for a readout, click to pick a price. Builds over the first few seconds.

Anatomy

Column
One price level, to the left of the dashed mid line, asks to the .
Bright bar
The change in the latest update: up when size was added, down when it was pulled.
Faint bars
Accumulated adds (up) and pulls (down) with a 3% decay per update.
Axis labels
Prices, thinned to fit.

How to read it

  1. Tall faint bars are where activity concentrates over the last few seconds.
  2. Pulls (down) just ahead of the mid suggest liquidity fleeing the approaching price.
  3. Steady adds on one side behind the show a participant building a position passively.

How it is computed

  • Each level's delta is its size now minus its size in the previous snapshot, at the same aggregated price.
  • Positive deltas add to that level's "added" total and negative ones to "pulled".
  • Every update multiplies both totals by 0.97, so the history fades over roughly 30 updates.
Core calculation
for (const entry of flow.values()) { entry.added *= 0.97; entry.pulled *= 0.97; }
for (const l of [...snapshot.bids, ...snapshot.asks]) {
  const e = flow.get(key(l)) ?? { added: 0, pulled: 0 };
  if (l.delta > 0) e.added += l.delta; else e.pulled += -l.delta;
  flow.set(key(l), e);
}

Trading signals

Fading wall

Persistent pulls at a level as price approaches: the wall will not hold.

Reloading

Adds at the same price after hit it: a participant is defending the level.

!
Caution:Deltas aggregated buckets. Changing the restarts the history, and coarse grouping mixes adds and pulls inside one bucket.

Settings that affect this view

Bucket size the deltas are measured on.

Standalone HTML implementation

A complete, dependency-free page that implements this view on a canvas against the real-time book. It runs below exactly as written. The harness keeps a full local book from the REST snapshot and the 100ms diff stream (resyncing on any sequence gap) and reads from aggTrade. Change SYMBOL / GROUP for another market, or replace snapshot() with your own feed, and the draw() function works unchanged.
