Info Line

Lines

A two-point measurement line that displays live price, percentage change, ratio, and bar-count information. The info line functions as an on-chart calculator for instant risk/reward and move measurement.

Theory & Background

The Info Line (also called a " line," " line," or "price ruler") bridges the gap between a trend annotation tool and a measurement calculator. While it looks identical to a , its primary purpose is informational — it continuously updates the price difference, percentage change, ratio, and bar count between its two endpoints as the chart evolves and as new bars print.

This is an essential tool for position sizing, risk management, and trade planning. Rather than manually subtracting prices and calculating percentages — a process that is slow, error-prone, and distracts from chart reading — the info line does it on the chart. It is particularly valued by swing traders and position traders who need to quickly assess the magnitude of a move, stop-loss distance, or estimate profit targets without switching to an external calculator or taking their eyes off the chart.

The info line is also invaluable for and journaling. When reviewing past , dragging an info line from entry to exit instantly shows the realized percentage gain or loss, the holding in bars, and the price ratio — all critical for performance analysis.

Tool Design & Behavior

The Info Line requires 2 anchor points. Click to place the first (P1) at the reference price, then click again to place the second anchor (P2) at the measurement . During the second click , a preview line follows the with a showing the current price difference and percentage between the two .

After placement, either endpoint to update all measurements in real time. The info floats near the line mid- and updates continuously as you drag. When new bars print, the P2 price adjusts if it was placed on the last visible bar — the percentage change recalculates automatically with each new . This makes the info line a P&L tracker for open positions.

On , the endpoints and line body highlight for interaction. Multiple info lines can exist on the same chart simultaneously; each maintains its own measurement display independently. The can be repositioned by dragging it. The setting controls how many decimal places are shown for prices and percentages.

Anatomy

● Price: 1.2345● Change: +1.23%● Ratio: 1.618P1P2
The info line labels price, percentage change, and ratio between its two endpoints.
Trend line Horizontal / Vertical Price action Construction
P1 — Start point
The first ; the reference price for all calculations. Typically placed at entry or swing start.
P2 — End point
The second ; the current or target price. Changes as new bars form.
Price label
Displays the absolute price at each endpoint. Shows bid/ask spread if available.
Change label
Percentage change from P1 to P2: (P2 − P1) / P1 × 100. Can be positive or negative.
Ratio label
Price ratio: P2 / P1. Useful for estimating Fibonacci extension multiples (1.272, , 2.618).
Bars label
Number of bars or trading sessions between the two endpoints. Helps assess move .

Visual Configuration

The info line offers granular control over which measurements are displayed and how they are formatted, allowing you to it for specific use cases.

Pro tip:Set P1 at your , then P2 over a candidate stop-loss level. The percentage readout instantly shows your risk per unit. Move P2 to a target level to see the risk/reward ratio at a glance — all without mental math.

Trading Theory & Application

Risk Measurement: The most common and powerful use of the info line is instantaneous risk assessment. Place P1 at and P2 at stop-loss level. The percentage change tells you exactly how much capital is at risk per unit. For a $10,000 position where you risk 2% of capital, you can immediately verify whether the aligns with your risk parameters. This eliminates the most common source of trading errors: incorrect position sizing.

Target & Fibonacci Extensions: the height of a completed swing (swing low to swing high) using an info line. Use the ratio display to quickly check if current price is at a Fibonacci multiple (1.272, , 2.618) of that original move. The ratio is a direct Fibonacci calculator — no need for a separate Fibonacci tool.

Momentum Comparison Across Swings: Place info lines on two adjacent swings. the percentage change and bar count of each. Rules of thumb: a smaller percentage gain over more bars = momentum deceleration; a larger percentage gain over fewer bars = momentum . This quantifies what the eye sees subjectively, providing an measurement of momentum shifts.

Position Tracking: Leave an info line from your to the current bar while a trade is open. The -updating percentage display shows your unrealized P&L in real time, bar by bar. This helps you monitor whether the trade is performing as expected and whether your trailing stop is keeping pace with the move.

How to Draw

  1. 1
Place P1 at the reference price
Click at the start of the segment you want to — your , a swing low, a swing high, or any structural pivot.
  2. 2
Place P2 at the target price
Click at the end of the segment. The floating info appears immediately with all enabled measurements.
  3. 3
    Read the measurements
The shows price at each endpoint, percentage change, ratio, and bar count. A positive percentage means price rose from P1 to P2.
  4. 4
    Adjust as needed
either endpoint to refine the measurement. All values update in real time during the drag — no button clicking required.
  5. 5
    Customize the display
Toggle individual measurements on/off via the settings . Adjust if values appear rounded to 0.00%.

Pro tip:The -updating percentage display makes the info line a choice for profit-taking : place P2 at a candidate exit level and watch your unrealized P&L evolve bar by bar.

Interpretation

  • A positive percentage means price has risen from P1 to P2 \u2014 the segment is in the black.
  • A negative percentage means price has fallen from P1 to P2 \u2014 the segment is in the red.
  • The ratio is always positive: R = P2 / P1. R > 1 means price rose; R < 1 means price fell.
  • A bar count with a percentage change = slow, grinding move with low momentum.
  • A bar count with a percentage change = sharp, impulsive move with high momentum.
  • The reversal of (positive to negative or vice versa) as P2 is dragged past P1 marks the breakeven .

Advanced Techniques

Multi-Leg -Correction Measurement: Place one info line from swing low to swing high ( leg A), and a second from the subsequent swing high to the next swing low ( leg B). the percentage and bar count of the impulse vs. the correction. A shallow correction (less than 38.2% of the impulse) in fewer bars suggests strong trend momentum. A deep correction (more than 61.8%) suggests weakness.

-Based Position Sizing Workflow: Place P1 at entry and use the info line to the -based . Read the percentage to verify the stop aligns with your 1% or 2% per-trade risk limit. Then position size: risk ($) / stop percentage = position size. This entire workflow happens in seconds without leaving the chart.

Pair Trading Spread Analysis: For pair trading, place info lines on both legs of the spread. the percentage move of each to assess which side is driving the current divergence. If one leg has moved +3% while the other has only moved +0.5%, the divergence is driven by the faster-moving .

Range Tracking: Place an info line from the open to the current bar. The percentage shows the intraday return. Use this to gauge whether the current session is developing into a trend day, a range day, or a reversal day based on the magnitude and direction of the move.

Common Mistakes

!
Caution:The info line measures price only. It does not account for spreads, commissions, slippage, or funding rates. Actual realized P&L will differ from the displayed percentage, especially for high-frequency or low-priced instruments.
!
Caution:On very price segments (e.g. a 1- move in a high-priced like a $500+ stock), the percentage may display as 0.00%. Increase the setting to 3\u20134 decimal places or widen the measurement segment for meaningful readings.
ℹ
Note:Do not confuse the info line with a . The info line is for measurement, not for trend support or resistance. Using it as a trend line will give misleading signals, as the info line does not maintain a slope for .
