Grid Modes — Overview

27 modes

The grid mode decides how much size each level commits as the ladder deepens. It is the single choice that most determines both recovery speed and blow-up risk.

One base, many curves

sets the base for one level. The is a function from level index to a multiple of that base. Everything downstream — capital required, average entry, recovery speed, tail risk — follows from the of that function.

ℹ
Note:Every diagram in this section is drawn with the same function the engines use to size orders, so what you see here is what the exchange receives.

The seven families

Basic
Same size at every rung. Perfectly predictable capital; slowest recovery.
Martingale
Size GROWS with depth. Pulls the average entry down fast, so a recovers more — at the cost of escalating capital.
Anti-Martingale
Size SHRINKS with depth. Deep exposure stays , so a sustained trend costs little; recovery is slow.
Geometric
Constant-ratio with an explicit, tunable aggression dial.
Harmonic
The 1/n taper — a clean, gentle decay.
Capped
Martingale growth up to a hard ceiling. Most of the recovery benefit, none of the unbounded tail.
DCA
Accumulation-style rather than active .

Caution:A martingale is not "more ". It is a different risk object: the loss has a fat tail that grows with depth. Size the account to the FULL ladder, not to the first few rungs.

Multi-order modes

level i opens i orders → i take-profit targetsL11 × base · 1 exitsL22 × base · 2 exitsL33 × base · 3 exitsL44 × base · 4 exits
Only marti_grid and marti_grid_linear place several orders per level.

Instead of one larger order, level i places i base-sized orders, each with its own take-profit. A partial books partial profit rather than nothing — useful in choppy markets, at the cost of more order slots and more exchange traffic.

Choosing a mode

  1. 1
1 — Decide the market regime you are trading
Ranging and mean-reverting favours growth curves (they average down into the ). Trending favours flat or decaying curves (they limit what a trend can cost).
  2. 2
2 — Set your capital ceiling first
Work out what you are willing to commit in total, then pick a whose Σ at your level count fits inside it. Do not pick the mode first and hope.
  3. 3
3 — Prefer a cap over an uncapped multiplicative curve
capped_martingale keeps almost all of exponential's recovery speed while guaranteeing a maximum per-level size. It is the practical choice for trading.
  4. 4
4 — Arm the stop loss for growth curves
The steeper the , the more the tail dominates. A stop is what an unbounded tail into a chosen loss.
  5. 5
5 — Verify in the ladder plan
Page to the bottom of the ladder in the preview and read the capital. If it makes you uncomfortable, the is wrong for the level count.

Pro tip:Starting : fixed for a first grid, capped_linear for risk-controlled averaging, capped_martingale for mean-reversion, marti_grid_sqrt for gentle averaging on low-volatility instruments, anti_marti_exponential when you expect trends.

Parametric modes

Some modes expose an extra dial. When you select one, the and the settings show exactly that field and nothing else:

Ratio (r)
marti_grid_geometric, geometric_ratio, anti_marti_geometric — the constant multiplier between levels. Default 1.5.
Exponent (p)
marti_grid_power — size = base · iᵖ. Default 2.
Slope (m)
marti_grid_half, anti_marti_half — size = base · (1 + m·i). Default 0.5.
Step every (N)
marti_grid_step — hold size flat for N levels, then bump. Default 2.
Size cap
capped_martingale (default 8), capped_linear (default 5) — the per-level ceiling.

Aliases and floors

  • Aliases — some values are different names for identical math, kept so dashboards can group strategies by family: marti_grid = marti_grid_linear, geometric_ratio = marti_grid_geometric, harmonic = anti_marti_grid, dca_fixed = fixed. Each 's article names its alias.
  • One-lot — decaying modes are floored at one lot by the engine. The diagrams show the true mathematical , so beyond a certain depth the executed size flattens where the keeps falling.
  • Python parity — the first nine modes mirror the original Python enum exactly; the remaining eighteen are C++-first extensions.

Changing the mode on a running strategy

The is editable , but it is a structural change: a resting order cannot be amended into a different , so the engine cancels the resting ladder and re-places it at the new sizes. inventory and its exits are preserved.
