Gann Wheel (360°)

Gann Wheel (360°)

Gann

The Square of Nine drawn as what it physically is: a spiral wound round a centre, cut by the cardinal and ordinal crosses. Rings are turns; spokes are directions; the crossings pair a price with a date.

Why a radial view

The tool projects the wheel onto the price as levels. That is the practical view, and most of the time it is the one you want. This tool keeps the wheel , and the reason is not aesthetic.

A wheel position is a combination of price and time. Read them separately and the pairing is lost. A spoke crossing a ring marks one bar at one price together — and those crossings are what Gann’s phrase “squaring of price and time” refers to. The view is the only one in which the tool’s actual claim is visible.

What the two anchors mean

Centre
The pivot — a significant high or low in both price and time. Everything is measured from here.
Second anchor
Sets the unit radius, which is one full turn of the wheel: 360° of rotation and, by the 's one structural property, an increase of exactly 2 in √price.
Rings
Fractions and multiples of the unit radius. The unit ring is drawn heaviest because it is the reference every other ring is derived from.
Spokes
Directions in . The cardinal cross (0/90/180/270) is drawn over the ordinal diagonals, matching the ranking the method gives them.
ℹ
Note:Rings are drawn as ellipses, not circles, with the price and time semi-axes taken separately from the offset. A circle on a chart is only when the axes are squared; forcing a round one would silently rescale either price or time and put every crossing in the wrong place. The price-per-bar reports the scale so you can check it.

The unit ring is one full turn from the centre. Cardinal spokes are emphasised over the ordinal diagonals, which is the ranking Gann's method gives them.
  1. 1
    Click the centre
The pivot the wheel turns around. A major high or low, chosen for structural significance rather than because it is recent.
  2. 2
    Drag out one full turn
The second sets the unit radius. Fit it so the unit ring reaches a price and date you have reason to treat as one complete cycle from the pivot — typically the next major extreme.
★
Pro tip:Set Zero to “ (time )” when you want the to line up with a price level and a vertical date. Use “Top (north)” to match Gann’s own wheel diagrams. Both conventions are in use and neither is wrong; pick one and stay with it.

The divisions

ElementValuesReading
Unit ring1 turnOne complete cycle of price and time from the pivot. The wheel's reference.
Half ring0.5 turnThe primary intermediate cycle.
Quarter rings0.25, 0.75 turnThe quartering of the cycle.
Outer rings1.5, 2 turnsShipped hidden. Enable when price has run well past one turn.
Cardinal spokes0°, 90°, 180°, 270°The strongest directions. Where they a ring is a coordinate worth marking.
Ordinal spokes45°, 135°, 225°, 315°The diagonals. Secondary, but frequent .

How to read the crossings

  • A ring–spoke crossing is a bar and a price together. That pairing is the whole output; the rings and spokes on their own are scaffolding.
  • Price arriving at the unit ring has covered one full cycle from the pivot. Gann treated that as completion, not continuation.
  • Crossings that fall on past validate the unit radius. If several do, the wheel is well placed for this ; if none do, move the second rather than adding rings.
  • The price/bar is the diagnostic. Gann’s method expects 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 40 price units per bar. An arbitrary means the wheel’s geometry has no on this chart’s .
  • Use the wheel to find coordinates and the to read the exact prices. The view shows the pairing; the level view gives the number.

Common mistakes

!
Caution:The wheel is the most easily over-fitted Gann . Rings, spokes, revolutions and a free centre together will produce a crossing near any bar and price. Fix the centre and the unit radius before looking at where price is, and keep the spoke count at eight.
!
Caution:All Gann geometry requires an arithmetic price . On a the ’s price semi- no longer represents a constant price distance and the crossings .
ℹ
Note:For price levels alone, prefer the tool: it is scale-independent, needs no squared chart, and gives exact prices with labels. Reach for the wheel when the question involves time as well as price.
